    ◇ Japanese Zelkova (Keyaki)

     Zelkova is a high-quality wood native to Japan, known for its extremely hard and durable properties, and its striking, vibrant, and beautiful grain.

     It is a heavy and imposing wood, and it is said to take more than 60 years to become suitable for use as timber. It is such a strong wood that if it is not allowed to mature for such a long period of time, the wood will warp or twist.

     Furthermore, due to its hardness, it is extremely difficult to process, requiring highly skilled craftsmen. After such time and effort, this zelkova wood toast plate is finally completed, possessing a deep sense of weight and beautiful wood grain that quietly satisfies the user's heart.


     The beautiful triangular indentations, carved at equal intervals from joined pieces of scrap wood, slightly elevate freshly toasted bread when placed on the stand, reducing sogginess.
    Furthermore, the bottom of the concave section has fine, jagged slits, which help to absorb excess moisture. In addition, the oil from the toast is efficiently absorbed into the wood, protecting it, and since it does not leave a stain on the surface, it saves you the trouble of washing the dish every time.

    This product has an oil finish, so it requires regular maintenance. If the surface becomes dry or whitish with use, apply oil to soak it in. Drying oils such as walnut oil or linseed oil are recommended.

    If you're only using it to cut or place bread, simply brushing off any crumbs is sufficient. The oil from the bread absorbs into the wood, providing good nourishment. Therefore, you don't need to wash it every time like you would a ceramic plate. If you do need to wash it, use a mild detergent, wipe off any moisture thoroughly afterward, and then stand it upright to air dry in the shade.
